5 Reasons To Marry At De Vere Tortworth Court

This stunning manor house in the heart of the Cotswolds countryside is a beautiful place to tie the knot, surrounded by your friends and family. I was invited to capture the day here for a lovely couple, Jess, and Scott - and here are 5 reasons you should tie the knot at Tortworth Court too!

1. The Orangery

The photos should do all the talking for this one… what a place to marry the love of your life! Thinking selfishly for a moment, this space is a wedding photographers dream. Natural light pours in from above through the giant glazing to give a lovely even light across you and your guests, plus its warm and dry! It’s all the benefits of an outdoor wedding, with none of the risks of the West Country’s climate!

The staff at Tortworth Court are amazing, preparing the room for your ceremony in the morning, then converting the space for wedding breakfast dining following your marriage while you spend time in the bar with your guests. In the evening, the tables are put to one side to leave a central dancefloor for you to party long into the night, with the bar in the Orangery opening to keep the drinks flowing without having to step outside.

2. Rain Isn’t Ironic

Apologies to Alanis Morrissette, but rain on your wedding day isn’t ironic at Tortworth Court, it looks amazing! There are plenty of spaces to keep you both dry for photographs, including a car port at the entrance, the orangery, a band stand overlooking the rolling gardens, and the archway underneath the welcome sign. These all provide a dry space to take a moment with your new spouse, whilst the wedding photographer gets soaked capturing the love story that is unfolding (it's fine, skin’s waterproof!)

The rain can add a real sense of drama to a wedding gallery, allowing the brightness of the love story to shine through. I personally don’t shoot or edit in a “light and airy” style, so rain doesn’t affect any part of my photography, I just shoot from under an umbrella where possible.

3. Reception

The reception area is hard to describe in words – grand, magnificent, stunning – nothing seems to quite do it justice. A gigantic wooden staircase leads you up to a balcony overlooking the whole room from on high, a perfect place for more photographs!

4. The Library

Quite possibly my favourite room in the entirety of Tortworth Court. This hidden bar, just off the entrance is a brilliant place to have a quiet moment before the ceremony begins. We took in the groomsmen and a wee dram for a few minutes of peace before the guests arrived, capturing the bond between them, as well as a couple of photos any groom would want of themselves in their gallery!

5. The Grounds

Thanks to the Great British weather, we didn’t venture too far from the warmth and comfort of the main building or Orangery during the wedding at Tortworth Court. The grounds are massive, with garden that roll into the Gloucestershire countryside, vistas in all directions and paths throughout, you can truly get lost within the grounds of the venue.
